What are Dark Circles
Sleep deprivation is not the only reason for dark circles; many issues can cause this problem. Usually, the dark coloration of skin under eyes happens because of fatigue but other causes include stress, overworking, aging, unhealthy diet, skin allergies and heredity. Dark circles is not a skin disease but a thorough reflection of your lifestyle, and numerous home remedies can help you get rid of dark circles over night, but it totally depends on the real cause of it. Let us first examine the causes behind this problem.
Causes of Dark Circles
Fatigue
One of the common reasons for dark circles, fatigue, does not only result in black circles under eyes, but it can be catastrophic to the overall health of the body. Give your body adequate rest and amount of sleep to stay healthy.
Stress
Stress suppresses the body’s ability to cope up with biological changes, results in drastic reduction of hormonal production. Stress impacts the body’s immune system and results in poor health and conditions like dark circles.
Aging
The aging process gradually results in the loss of fat and collagen which dramatically reduces the tightness and thickness of the skin. Thinning of skin especially under eyes exposes the blood vessels which results in the dark coloration.
Unhealthy diet
Diet is crucial for the overall health of body; an unhealthy diet can cause a deficiency of certain minerals our body need. In most cases, the lack of Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, and anti-oxidants can cause black circles under the eyes.
Skin Allergies
Skin allergy is also attributed to dark circles; any chemical, food, workplace conditions can result in allergic reactions. Gluten intolerance can also result in allergies associated with the black circles and puffiness under eyes.
Eczema
A condition that causes redness, dryness and itchiness of skin can also be the culprit behind black circles. If the dark circles and swelling keep getting worse, then you should immediately consult the dermatologist about it.
Exposure to Sun
Sun exposure can increase the production of melanin that is responsible for the coloration of the skin. The more melanin body produces, the darker the coloration gets. Continuous exposure to sunlight may cause irritation and redness in eyes and dark circles.
Heredity
Dark circles also run as an inheritance in families, the biological cause of such problem is still not available. It is not a medical problem, and it can still be treated with home remedies, let’s look at these remedies now:

How to Avoid Dark Circles
There are several ways that can help you avoid the dark circles under your eyes.
1- Get Adequate Sleep
Rule # 1 for a healthy life is to give your body adequate rest so that it can get ready to face some new challenges of tomorrow. Remember a healthy lifestyle is highly based on the ample amount of sleep your body gets. It can also enhance hormonal production and the recovery of muscles. Sleep deprivation can result in intense swelling under your eyes which cause the skin to stretch producing dark patches that is why a minimum of 8 hours of sleep is a must to minimize this effect.
2- Drink Plenty of Water
Water owes a great deal of importance to the human body to function appropriately. Dehydration can result in an utter disaster; you might even lose consciousness due to deprivation of liquid. Dark circles are also attributed to the lack of fluids in human body, so drink a lot of water for healthy life.
3- Using Extra Pillows while sleeping
Dark circles can also appear as a result of fluid flow towards the lower eyelids during sleep that can cause puffiness and dark coloration under eyes. Using two or more pillows can help you avoid this situation. Another way is to sleep on the right side of your body that can reduce the chances of gastrointestinal gasses and chemicals clouding the brain. These gasses and chemicals can cause a severe headache that may result in erratic sleep patterns.
4- Wear a sunscreen
Continuous exposure to sun rays can cause dark circles because the skin beneath our eyes is prone to hyper pigmentation (excessive production of melanin that can result in dark coloration of skin). Wearing a sunscreen is always helpful in avoiding the dark circles; make sure to buy the sunscreen that matches your skin type.
5- Choosing the right facial cleanser
Find a good quality facial cleanser, most of the times it is the makeup remover that causes inflammation and dryness of facial skin. When you rub the makeup off especially under the eyes, it can cause capillary damage that may result in dark circles. So choose your makeup remover wisely.
6- Wash your face with cold & fresh water
A few splashes of fresh and cold water on face can help you avoid dark circles problem.
7- Using a good quality Retinoid
The anti aging compounds like retinoid are rich of Vitamin A and other chemicals that contribute to removal of wrinkles and dark spots from the skin. Use a good quality retinoid that is especially formulated to increase collagen production and decrease the pigmentation of skin.
8- A Healthy Diet
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables; the cleaner you eat, the better you will feel. Keeping a proper balance of protein and fiber intake is the key to a healthier body. Keep up your vitamins and mineral intake to the optimum by taking good quality supplements. Detoxify your body at least once in 3 months; I will also publish a complete guide on Detox Diet later.
